Friday December 14, 2012 – Sunday December 16, 2012
Organiser – Gary Box
Where – Finlake Lodges, Finlake Holiday Park, Newton Abbot, Devon TQ13 0EJ
When – December 14th-16th 2012 (Fri-Sun)
Cost – £86.00 (includes 2 nights accommodation and all guided walks)
We have booked 2 luxury lodges each sleeping 6 people (1 double and 2 twin beds) and each lodge also has a hot tub on the deck. The park has a range of facilities that include indoor heated swimming pool (free to use) and health club that has sauna, steam room and beauty treatments (extra charges apply). There is also a bar and restaurant on site. A Go Active resort there are a range of activities we can try, perhaps fencing or archery might be fun. As with our other luxury weekends I will be bringing a selection of films if people want a DVD night and the Nintendo Wii.
The location of this resort is ideal to explore two excellent but very different walking areas. Dartmoor National Park is just to the West and one of the days we will explore the East of the park with a 7.5 mile walk that includes Haytor Rocks and Hound Tor. On the other day we will head towards the coast for some stunning Devon coastal scenery with a 7.5 mile route from Torquay to Brixham which includes a number of great sandy beaches and coves as well as the holiday town of Paignton and the fishing town of Brixham. Brixham also has a replica of Sir Francis Drake’s ship The Golden Hind (Drake was born in Tavistock, Devon). Since this is a linear walk we will leave the cars at the end point and catch a bus to Torquay to start the walk.
