Malta and Gozo are situated between Sicily and the North African coast. They make a popular year round destination with a mild climate with lots of great architecture and coastline. Too hot for walking in the summer the best time is considered to be between March and May when spring flowers are in bloom. This trip features all the must see sights staying in luxury villa accommodation and will be popular with those wanting to escape the cold of the UK.

Thursday 6th March The walk today will concentrate on the West of the island. We drive to Rabat where the 8.3 mile (13.4 km) walk starts. The highlight of the route is the Dingli cliffs which is the highest point in Malta. When the walk is over we will drive south to The Blue Grotto where you can take photos and get closer on a boat trip for €8.00 if you want.

Friday 7th March Today’s walk will see us visit the south east of the island. Our 9 mile (14.5km) walk visits two constrasting seaside villages, the fashionable Marsaskala which has a number of restaurants and coffee shops along the promenade and Marsaxlokk which is a working fishing village complete with colourful fishing boats bobbing in the harbour. The route also visits St Thomas Bay, and Delimara Fort and lighthouse. Our drive back to the accommodation will be via the capital Valetta where you will have some hours to explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Sunday 9th March Today’s walk is a little over 10 miles (16km) and starts from Victoria. It passes the outskirts of Munxar before reaching the sheer cliffs of Xlendi on the coast, one of the most visited sights on the island. The next classic viewpoint is the Azure Window and Fungus Rock. The Azure Window has featured in many films and as the top of the arch crumbles over time it’s believed that in a few years it will collapse and will then be known as the Azure Pinnacle. The route continues to the Inland Sea. The walk then heads inland back to Victoria where there will be time to explore the capital of Gozo.

  • Church spires and windmill at Qala
  • Calypso’s Cave
  • Neolithic temples of Ggantija (world’ 2nd oldest manmade religious structures)
  • Ramla Bay (considered one of the world’s best beaches)
